Holt's will also carry Jimmy Choo, Chloe, Prada Donna, christian louboutin , Christian Dior and Coach, among others, she added. It has already launched a few of those shoe labels outside the Browns premises, she said.

The Montreal Holt's has received not only a facelift but an infusion of high-end fashion.

Dries Van Noten, Fendi and Marni are among the new brands in the Montreal store. In fact, Montreal now has all the power labels that the Toronto store does, Lerner said, naming Armani Prive, Michael Kors, Akris, Etro, Balenciaga, Prada and Gucci.

Lerner acknowledged it was difficult to gauge whether any customers are alienated by the obviously higher prices.

"We have a lot of new customers. We track that. And our existing customer base is still strong. We haven't noticed much attrition there,'' she said.

"We can't be every thing to every one as much as we would like to be.

"The key to our success, and for any retailer's success, is to know your niche, know your customer and stay very focused on that."
